United Nations
At the United
Nations, the League critiques official government reports
submitted in compliance with international treaties and
covenants, and regularly advocates on behalf of its affiliates
and partners abroad who provide alternative information
on human rights violations to the UN. The League regularly
attends the UN Commission for Human Rights in Geneva (see
League's submissions to the Commission) and the Committee
on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women in
New York and makes oral and written contributions at these
meetings. Each year, the League sponsors several dozen
Breakfast or Afternoon Briefings for delegates to the
UN General Assembly and the UN community at large. Through
its global fax and electronic mail network of more than
300 human rights advocates, journalists, and government
officials, the League draws attention to urgent international
human rights issues and cases.
